- Is a good source of calcium

- Has twice the protein content of regular yogurts

- Has five live and active cultures and three probiotics

- Is gluten free and Kosher certified

Yes please, where can I get it?

Chobani yogurt will be first available in Woolworths stores throughout New South Wales for $2.29/170g RRP. Initally the product will be imported, but Chobani are actively pursuing avenues for local manufacturing and expansion into other states.  The range includes a variety of 170g flavours: Peach (fat free), Blueberry (fat free), Strawberry (fat free), Vanilla (fat free), Mango (98% fat free), Passion Fruit (98% fat free), and Pineapple (98% fat free).

Further information: will be live later this week at: www.chobani.com.au

Make sure you connect with Chobani on facebook (they have over 350,000 active fans) and twitter @chobani, they can’t wait to hear how you like their “nothing but good” philosophy.  Chobani are very good listeners and rely heavily on their fans for feedback.  They’re already being influenced by down under and are introducing a passionfruit flavour to our North American neighbours.  Let’s see if they are just as passionate about this seeded fruit as we are? For dietitian colleagues, check out the RD Centre on the US Chobani site too.

If you have a question for Nicki please drop us a comment below? Or perhaps you are one of our lucky American colleagues or readers and have a Chobani tale to tell?  We’d love to hear about and share links to your yogurt recipes too?  Do you love yogurt like me?

Hearing that Chobani is making its way back home to Australia excites me so much! I am a Dietetic Intern studying and living abroad in the U.S and have been a huge fan of Chobani for a while now. When I heard the news that the company was expanding to Australia at the American Dietetic Assoc. annual conference in September this year I immediately started telling all my friends and family back home to keep an eye out for it.

Many people try Greek yogurt and are turned off by the bitter taste that it has compared to other yogurt varieties, but I have never experienced this with any of the Chobani flavors (even the plain, non-fat variety). I use the plain yogurt as a substitute for sour cream. In fact, my boyfriend never wanted to try any Greek yogurt varieties until I started topping his baked potato with it instead of sour cream and he had no idea :-) He is now hooked on Chobani too.

Yum, love a good plain yogurt. Will it be in any other sizes? such as 500g or 750g? And please get to Queensland quickly!!

  • Katrina Levine

This is exciting! I’m glad to hear that Chobani is expanding–it is truly amazing yogurt (as I sit here next to a 32 oz of vanilla Chobani).

I was doing a Google Search for Chobani internships and came across this post. I a public health nutrition student in North Carolina and am looking into internship possibilities for next fall, and am very interested in working with Chobani. Do you know how I can contact the company and who I should speak with? I checked their website, but had trouble finding much contact information. Can you pass along this message to Nicki?

  • http://chobani.com Nicki Briggs

Hi Katrina! How exciting. Please email me at care [at] chobani.com. I’d love to discuss opportunities.

Mel, we’re working on making larger sizes, in addition to our 170g cups, available in Australia. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the great comments. And thanks to Emma to featuring me on her fantastic blog!!

  • Bronwyn Webster

Can I buy it in Melbourne yet?

  • http://www.scoopnutrition.com Emma Stirling

Not yet Bronwyn, but coming real soon…stay tuned.

  • Molly

Yay! So excited when I heard this hit Australia, but I still had to wait until it got to Melbourne…so naturally, I was very happy to find it in the yogurt section of Woolworths tonight in my Melbourne suburb. I bought strawberry, pineapple, blueberry and peach flavours! Looking forward to trying it, I’m using it as a post-workout protein hit, as it contains sooo much more protein than regular yogurts!

  • Deb

Love it, Love it,Love it. Are they going to do the other flavours like the Apple cinnamon, Honey ,and Lemon ?

  • Russell

Whilst I congratulate this company for looking for a local producer, I would beg every potential customer to boycot the brand until the “Made in USA” label has disappeared. Yoghurt is Yoghurt, and we have some perfectly good suppliers in Australia. Just think of the cost of transport of this product from the USA, and pollution from this as well.

PLEASE – look at local suppliers and do NOT purchase a USA made diary product!

  • http://www.scoopnutrition.com Emma Stirling

Thanks Russell, we don’t have long to wait! I checked with the local Chobani team and they are currently in the process of expanding their Victorian facility in order to produce Chobani in Australia from the middle of this year.

  • David

OMG I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR NO FAT YOGURT it takes sooooo good can’t wait till the plant opens

  • http://www.scoopnutrition.com Emma Stirling

Just an update for all the Chobani fans in Australia. I was very lucky to attend a divine dinner at The Press Club in Melbourne last night for dietitians hosted by Chobani. They gave us an update on the development of the new plant in Victoria and the work they are doing locally with dairy farmers. Stay tunjed for locally produced products and national roll out around September 2012. Will keep you posted.

  • rivkah

Is the yogurt available in Melbourne yet??

  • http://www.scoopnutrition.com Emma Stirling

Yes Rivkah, it’s available in select Woolworth stores for now and a national rollout is planned for September I believe.

  • Nadz

Available in Canberra too …… Having it right now with fresh fruit :)

  • Nicole Hawkins

Please someone do you know when Chobani plans on launching key lime or lemon favors, I’m Canadian and just moved to Sydney and those are the only favors I like!!
Help I need a taste of home.

  • Russell

Please see my post back in March 2012. I checked today at Woolworths and was horrified to find they are still selling USA produced yoghurt products. It was previously suggested that by the “middle of this year”, it would be made in Australia….well, its about the “middle of this year now”, yet we are still causing massive environmental damage each time a pallet of yoghurt is flown in from the USA……while the Australian dairy industry suffers.

I fully acknowledge the local industry will benefit when this product is produced locally, but really…..who would buy a yoghurt product that must already be a week or two old before it hits the shelves here? Must have a good dose of preservative in it.

By all means, try it and buy it once the ridiculous “Made in USA” label disappears and it is made in Australia, but for now, please send a very strong message to Woolworths and whoever else stocks it for now. Perhaps have another look in September when we have a “made in AUSTRALIA” label…….please!

Hi friends! Emily from Chobani Australia here. Thank you all for your honest feedback. We truly appreciate it!

Russell, we appreciate your concern. We have invested in producing Chobani in Australia and are working hard at the moment to get our Melbourne plant up and running. Due to the size of the plant we are currently building, it’s taking a bit longer than expected, but things are tracking along nicely for production in the latter half of this year. Of course, we are just as eager to produce locally and support Australian dairy farmers. Each pot of Chobani yogurt is made from almost three times the amount of milk, which will bring consistent, long term business and Aussie jobs. And since we only use the freshest milk and natural ingredients, we don’t need any additives or preservatives.

Nicole, we love to hear flavour suggestions to add to our ever expanding range. Lemon flavour is available in the US and whilst we don’t have immediate plans to launch it here, it’s something we’ll be exploring down the track since it tastes so good! We haven’t yet got a lime flavour in our range, but we’ll be passing that one onto our product development team. Sounds delish!

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on our local production. Thanks again!

    Hi there, Jayne!

Thanks for your positive feedback, we never tire of hearing it! As for new flavours – our focus this year is building our factory and local production; new flavours will be next. We love hearing suggestions from our fans – your request for apple cinnamon has been noted!

  • Kat

    Hello Emily/Chobani!

I’m from Brisbane and recently your yogurt was on special at my local supermarket…
    Can I just say… W O W!
The best yogurt I have ever had! Absolutely delicious!
I love that it isn’t sickly sweet… Many of the no fat yogurts I’ve tried taste so artificially sweet it’s a bit overwhelming (no offense to them).
The texture of Chobani is so creamy… It’s hard to believe it’s so healthy haha.
    Love all the flavours. :)

Thank you from a happy customer.
    :)
