Bio:

Mel Haynes is a chef and nutritionist working as a private consultant in Adelaide where she consults to hospitality, businesses and the public.  She specialises in culinary nutrition, recipe modification and cooking classes.

Raised in a rural food producing town, Mel has always had a close association with the food chain and a rich cooking culture at home.  Extending this upbringing she moved to Adelaide and began her qualifications in commercial cookery to become a chef.  After two years of working in diverse range of restaurants she began a science degree at Flinders University whist continuing her career in cookery.

After a year off to start a family Mel graduated with a science degree with honours before entering the Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics.  It was during this time she invested in a prominent Adelaide advertising agency.

During her Masters degree she was involved with research including barriers to home cooking and the Eat Well Be Active children’s health campaign which are two areas she is very passionate about.

Now graduated with a Masters of Human Nutrition Mel has spent the first half of 2011 launching her business focused on breaching the barrier between the food services industry and the nutrition field by launching a series of classes and seminars demonstrating practical diet change from a “behind the apron” viewpoint.  Aimed at teaching cooking swkills, the classes go far beyond this, by engaging and motivating people towards dietary and behavioural change.
