Catch on to our fish faves this Heart Week – by Emma Stirling APD

Fish is a funny food.  It really seems to polarise people.  The lovers and well, let’s just say the not so lovers, as I really discourage any negative words about food.  The not so lovers often don’t like to touch or smell it, but most of the time it’s simply a case of forgetting to add it in to the weekly shop or menu plan.  It’s just off the radar.  There’s no regular anchor to it, to make a habit.  Ok. ok. Enough of the maritime puns.  It’s time to boost your betterness and bring on the Ultimate Fish Faves this Heart Week.

At a recent bloggers cooking class hosted by Brand Meets Blog on behalf of the Heart Foundation, we cooked mackerel and discussed making fish your dish.  Blogger Carly did a fab wrap up post of the event here. I also re-discovered the deliciousness that is the Heart Foundation Recipe library.  And of course just had to do this edit for you lovelies. Did you know? Fish is one of the best things you can add into a heart healthy eating plan.  Get the scoop on fish and omega 3’s in our archived post.

If your kids don’t like the taste of fish, try masking with aromatics or wrapping up the familiar way in a tortilla or taco.

Aim for at least 2 fish meals a week.  One of these divine dinners + canned fish for lunch per week is a simple rule.  Which recipe are you clicking on this Heart Week?

The Heart Foundation is urging all Australians to learn the warning signs of a heart attack during Heart Week (5-11 May).  “People who are treated within an hour of their first heart attack symptom have the greatest chance of not only surviving their heart attack, but continuing to enjoy a good quality of life,” advises Dr Lyn Roberts, National CEO of the Heart Foundation.  Learning the warning signs could save your life or the life of a loved one – download or order your free action plan today at heartattackfacts.org.au or call the Heart Foundation’s Health Information Service on 1300 36 27 87.
